Projects
Termite are extremely useful. Because of their conspicuous nests and ant trails you can easily examine them. For educational purposes, they are so well suited. their ecological role should not be underestimated. Thus removing the ants from a nest annually about 100,000 harmful insects in their environment. Ant-maps is therefore the aim of their habitat and termite protection. Although they are common in the Netherlands, they are vulnerable to fragmentation of the landscape.
The protection of the termite occurs in different ways: education, collaboration, research and actively protect the nests and their surroundings.
Venlo Floriade 2012
One of the main projects is the beschemingsproject Floriade . The construction of roads and buildings in a forest with Formica Formica and rua polyctena nests become cut off from their food sources. The forest is intersected by more recent decades the construction of a highway and the construction of an industrial estate. The investigation into the location and function of ant trails that led to specific places tunnels will be constructed for the termite. There is often experimented with ant tunnels, but not on such a large scale. In the spring of 2012 we will know whether this protection project. More information about this project here.
Nature
Managing a nature is no easy task. In our country's space is scarce. Not only people who have limited space to share. Even animals and plants must do that. Sometimes a particular place or habitat suitable to be made for sensitive species. The manager is like to be informed of the location of bosmiernesten. Because of their useful contribution of forests and meadows nests are legally protected. Ant-maps brings nests in card and when necessary, the ant trails. This information is shared annually with different nature management organizations such as Forestry Commission and the Limburg Landscape .
Collaboration
Sharing knowledge and experience is one of the main activities of the Ant-maps project. Because the work in both Germany and the Netherlands must be there to cooperation with and between different organizations gewerkt.Enkele of these organizations are the Ants Working Group of the NEV and the Deutsche Ameisenschutzwarte eV The Dutch organization specializing in the determination and identification of ants while the German DASW focuses on education and protection of ants.
Ants Database
Since 1992, all observations of termite observations recorded in a database. This database contains thousands of such photographs, nest positions, dimensions of the nests and many other data. The database is not only interesting for its own research into super-colonies. Also to investigate changes in the habitat, seasonality and distribution of the ants are the valuable data. database ' mdb V2 'is called also used to include data from different regions of the DASW to manage. The volunteers of the organization together as to keep abreast of new nests found and carried out. The Dutch media 2012 data will gradually be added will be going to the NDFF, the database of the Nature Data Authority .
