Cooperation between acacia ants and elephants

Series on the relationship between ants and other animals.

Acacia ants ( Pseudomyrmex ) are ants that live in acacia trees. The flowers of these trees is nectar that the ants like to eat. The tree find this fine, and provides space for the ants to make nests. The acacia ants have to do something in return, namely the tree and especially the flowers against hungry elephants. Once an elephant is to want to do good to the delicious nectar the ants run out and run to the tongue of the elephant. Which then shrinks back because of the tickling. Giraffes also have to believe it. Although the ants and the tree have a good cooperation, the elephant itself is also very important. By eating of the tree because it gets more flowers and delicious nectar. What is it yet again nicely done!
